Bedbugs, roaches, and mice - oh, my!

I chose to move in to 1500 Mass. because it was the least expensive building in the Scott Circle area with a front desk, a convenience store, and a garage. I never asked myself why it was so cheap ($1000/month as opposed to nearby buildings that run $1300 - $1800). If I had thought about it, I probably would have assumed that it was due to the odd layout (galley kitchen right in the living room - not separated by pass through or breakfast bar) and how dilapidated the hallways are. I would have been wrong. It's so cheap because the building is infested with mice. I kept my apartment immaculate, had pest repellers, and always threw my garbage away immediately. One weekend, two mice ran under my door on two separate occasions. When I called the front desk, they came and bolted a sweeper plate to the bottom of my door. Why aren't these installed in all apartments' However, the sweeper plate couldn't protect me from the bedbugs I picked up in the business center. When my doctor diagnosed my "weird new rash" as bedbug bites, it was the final straw. I moved out, and I've never been happier, at a similarly-priced building in North Dupont.
Additionally, on at least three occasions while I lived there, someone pulled the fire alarm, sending the whole building spilling out onto the street late at night, children and all.
