Nice Building, uneven management

Overall, I really like living at 2501 Porter. The apartments are roomy and the walls are pretty thick. There's also a washer/dryer in each apartment.
But the quality of service depends hugely on who you deal with. Abraham at the front desk is the best - he is always friendly, really competent, and always knows what is going on. The others, and I have no idea what their names are, it's hit or miss. Many of them seem to be surprised that they found themselves at the front desk of an apartment building, aren't really sure how they got there, and can't figure out what to do. All the really good staff people seem to leave. Actually, the bad ones go too! (Where do they go' It's very mysterious.) For what we pay in rent, I think we should get friendlier and more competent service. (I must admit, though, that repairs, on the rare occasion I've needed them, have been taken care of quickly.)
Also, they seem to keep taking away services. When I moved here in 2002, we only had to pay for electricity. Then it was electricity and water. Then they decided they wouldn't let service people in to your apartment while you were gone, so now you're apparently supposed to sit around all day waiting for the phone repair guy. They held themselves out as being a full-service building, so this annoys me.
But the building itself is really nice - only about 10 yrs old, which is very young in Cleveland Park years - no bugs or vermin - and nice views; and in the end I would recommend living here, especially if you can deal with spacey staff people (except the wonderful Abraham!!).
