One of the best buildings on the Red Line

I'm sad to be leaving 2501 Porter - I bought a condo and that's why I am.
Overall, this is a great building - walls are thick, there's free guest parking in the front, (smallish) washer-dryer in each apartment, 24-hr front desk....the apartments themselves are very well-constructed and all of them have nice balconies. Some of them are 'renovated' and have wood floors and updated cabinets and stainless steel appliances. The others (like mine) have wall-to-wall carpet and more 80s-style appliances and cabinets but they're still nice. The pool area out back is really pretty and a nice place to just sit and read or whatever. The maintenance staff are very quick to fix things and do a really good job.
One downside is, as noted before, the ghetto elevators, which break down frequently. Apparently they're being completely replaced this year sometime.
Also, some of the residents smoke a lot, though I've never smelled smoke in my own apartment (knock on wood) over the 5 years I've been here.
Also, the hill you walk up to get to the Metro and Connecticut Ave. is pretty dark at night and a couple of people (2') have been mugged in the past year. Some sketchy people use Porter as a way to drive across the park (but so does everyone else, of course) and they speed and yell incomprehensible things at you as you walk up the street. Mostly going east to west. Just an FYI.
Overall, though, it's hard to beat this building. I wish I could buy my apartment at 2501!
