I should point out that I rented furnished for only three months, and came from London (going by London prices, I thought I was being given a weekly rent; it was a monthly rent, inclusive of utilities). 3801 is a nice place to live. I had a studio that looked out over part of Rock Creek Park, facing well away from anything remotely unsightly (not that there was much) or noisy (although there is a fire station nearby, and people who faced the road were sometimes annoyed by sirens etc.). Views of Rock Creek were great. My studio was nicely furnished, although the appliances were a little old, but still worked well all of the time, although the kettle took a while to boil. The furnishings were a wrap around couch (one of those ones that comes in units), a coffee table, a large sideboard (essentially somewhere to put things on - mine originally had the TV on it but I moved it), a double bed which had cushions etc. and slid underneath a long shelf so it could be used as a sofa (not a great description, but it did work), nice wall coverings, a closet, dressing room with a very large mirror, drawers, dressing table and space to hang clothes and a small bathroom with a tub and shower, sink, cabinet and towel rail. Towels were provided as part of the furniture. The kitchen area was fine for what was needed - it had a gas oven and hotplates, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, sink and plenty of room for storage (again, all my cooking utensils, plates &c. were provided as part of the furniture) The TV was smallish, but reception was ok. I didn't bother with cable as there was a large TV in the social room. The social room was in two parts, one with the TV, sofas, a coffee table, a round card table (ideal for poker, I found) and a refrigerator. The other part had a medium sized pool table. There was also a restroom and AC. The social room was great, except that the management started closing it at 11pm every night (including weekends). There was also a sun deck, which opened and closed erratically, although I was assured that it was going to be opened for the summer (I left on April 15, by which time it was summer). Please do not get the impression the management were difficult; they were very good, polite, friendly and helpful, just a little odd when it came to the social room and the sun deck. That having been said, the views from the sun deck were outstanding. The gym was OK; it had a static bike, treadmill, a bench and a couple of other pieces of equipment I didn't use. It wasn't used much, but was in fair condition. The location is great; three minutes' walk from Cleveland Park metro and some shops, five minutes from a Giant, CVS, KFC and Taco Bell and there were a broad range of bars, restaurants and cafes within seven minutes' walk, as well as the Uptown Theatre, which is one of the best cinemas I've ever been too. I judged that if I left the building at 8:25 in the morning, I could been at my desk on Capitol Hill by 9am. The desk was staffed 24/7 by a universally friendly and highly competent staff. I did not have a car personally, but there was a waiting list for parking spaces; however, there was parking on the street within ten minutes' walk. The area is very safe, and as it is close to several Embassies, the US Uniformed Secret Service and DC Police were often to be seen around. Definitely worth a look.
