The Berkshire is convenient if you go to American University because it is close and affordable for the area. However, the maintenance and up-keep of the apartments is horrible. There is no ventilation in the bathrooms which means that when you move in things might look okay, but within a short few months the ceiling will be peeling and cracks in the walls will appear. The kitchens, unless you got a recently refinished one, are tiny and poorly equipped. In terms of the staff of the building, although they are friendly and seemingly abundant, I m not sure what it is that they are doing. The front desk staff, although kind, does nothing as far as I ve been able to tell. They are terrible at handling mail - packages are constantly misplaced, and the Berkshire owns no responsibility for anything that they might do to wrong their residents. The maintenance staff is constantly around, yet it is impossible for them to come fix simple things like the hot water, or the bathroom cracks. Further, the heating is extremely hard to regulate and although they claim to change the filters, they always seem to be blowing out excess dust. The leasing office staff is unpleasant and rude, I would recommend avoiding them at all costs once the lease is signed.
