I've lived here for over 12 years and this place is more than ahome to me, it's my life, it's all i've known.
I have to admit that over the years the berkshire has gotten worse. It all began when Gables took over, They renovated the apatment and changed the carpet and front desk and chairs, and sevice men, but they didn't change it for the better, they changed it for the worse.
I HIGHLY DISAGREE WITH THE RUDE PERSON WHO CRITIZED THE FRONT DESK WORKERS, I WORKED AT THE FRONT DESK AT THIS APARTMENT AND ITS NOT EASY WORKING THERE, PEOPLE ARE VERY DEMANDING.
There are cockroach problems, and major smoking problems, like one time a friend even asked if I smoked because i smelt like smoke.
The maintence men are extremely rude, except for the head maintenece man, he's great.
The maintenence men love to put things to the last minute too.

The noice level at the building is horrible, and the walls are paper thin, but the music is not that bad.

Again I've lived here most of my life and its not a bad building once you get to know the atmosphere, and the manager is a very understanding and nice person.
Again, it's northwest DC, it's not as bad as some places.
Lastly, the people who live here are mostly students, and it's a great commute to AU, and starbucks, and resturants, and the movies, also some really good school are around here too.

It's not unsafe, just always keep your doors closed, just incase.
I love the building despite the complaints and problems!
