I have lived in the building since early 2005 and don't want to move. This attitude is common among most residents, which could be the reason it is hard to come across an available unit here (apologies to anyone waiting for one.) The building is old, has few amenities, and is more functional than fancy, but if those are not priorities for you, it is a great place to live. I have a large studio that is laid out in a way that I can partition off a bedroom with plenty of space for living, kitchen and office areas. Great neighbors, low rent and fantastic management/staff. My apt is on the back of the building so I get little street noise and tons of light. The building is very clean and any maintenance problems are taken care of immediately. The property manager is new and has made great changes - regular communication via email & signs, proactively anticipating problems and concerns, and general devotion to residents' well-being. In regards to another posting that notes the property manager's involvement in increasing the number of ratings on this site, I would agree that it is an example of his initiative to improving Brunswick House overall. Since he took over, the building has also gotten a website which has useful information for both existing and prospective residents. So, while the building was well run before, it goes above and beyond what would be expected (i.e. thank you's to residents for recycling!).. thus the seemingly odd number of comments about management (Honestly - its so strikingly proactive that that residents talk about it in the elevators and - at least I - have told stories to colleagues).
It is rare that I have a guest who does not comment on 1) the stellar location 2) size/layout of the apartment or 3) low rent. One thing everyone *does* ask about is parking. Parking is limited (there are a few spots in the building, and I am lucky enough to have gotten off the waiting list) but I know the property manager has recently taken the initiative to investigate alternative parking options for existing and prospective residents. If you don't have a car, the metro is extremely close, although anything you need is a short walking distance anyway (Safeway, Whole Foods, 4 gyms, Dupont/U St/Adams Morgans bars & restaurants, Washington Mall, etc.)
