I moved to Burke Park at the end of December '05. In the little more than a week that I've been here, I've had to call 'maintenance' (a joke) 4 times about problems with the apartment and they have not responded to any of my calls, the entire building is being sprayed because of bedbugs, I can't seem to put out enough roach traps and some moron pulled the fire alarm at 4am, so the elevators are not working in a 10-story building. Most of the common areas of the building are disgusting and the building is not secure at all (broken doors, etc). There are far too many people living in the building, so they break locks on doors so they don't have to use keys (which they don't have anyway). The rent is inexpensive, but when you figure in the cost of so many products to ward of the roaches and hauling your laundry to a laundromat (because the laundry room in the building might as well not even be there- broken washers/dryers), you'd be better off paying a little more for a more decent place. On the surface, this place looks like a bargain. However, it's just a ghetto in the heart of the Nation's Capital. If your idea of 'living' is a place swarming with two-legged (and regular)roaches and other things not on a lease , negligent management, a general ghetto atmosphere and Third World squalor, save your money and move to Mexico, Guatemala or Honduras.
