I remember these apartments as a child and always dreamed of living here, the grounds, common areas, apartments were all maintained exceptionally well. Intro 1998, I became a resident at the Twins @ 101 G Street, my move-in was disastrous due to mismangement and placing blame elsewhere, however, to show a buttress of good faith, I was given half off the second months rent for my troubles. However, this ended being nothing as I had to polyurethane my own floors and get a maintenance friend to do other repairs for a fee. The property was just what I had expected up until late 2001 early 2002. Security staff was shiftless, on Fridays they parked their cars in the driveway and let anyone else do the same blaring loud music. The crackheads took over making it reminiscent of the Carter on New Jack City. St. Elizabeth patients started to rent here making it equally unsafe. The cockroaches, mold, mice, vermin, panhandling by the patients, auto vandalism, broken elevators, pugnent and foul odors eminating from the trash rooms and the overall decline in the quality of residents got to be too much and awfully unbearable. The Mayor should be made to live here to see the declining effect the DC Housing Finance Agency fiasco has had on well meaning residents. The lobby also became a hangout spot. Residents were arrested and marched out the building by MPD for prostitution, drug involvement, domestice violence etc. It is a crying shame to see what this place has evolved into. This is no place for seniors, kids, families, man nor beast

I didn't bother to speak on the other two buildings because I figured everyone knew about them. I have a friend that lived in 101 that tried to withold his rent at the recomendation of the tenants association who was formed to combat the problems you're speaking of. Nothing came out of that and he had to move. Again, if you're new to the area especially from cities in the north, you might find it to be very worth while, even with the many problems.
