mixed feelings #2

After reading the other reviews I figure I've either been pretty lucky with my apartment or I just value things that others don't, among them the beautiful courtyard (which makes up for not having a balcony).
Other good things: the large floorplans, the gym, the pretty hardwood floors, the location (relative peace and quiet while still being just a few Metro stops from all the hip and happening places AND super close to Rock Creek Park (just down the street) AND a fantastic new grocery store. Also on the plus side: apart from the summer months, when the airconditioning racks up quite a bill, you don't have to worry about utility bills because everything else is included. And the stove/oven are gas operated which is handy in case of a power outage.
What's not so great: the heat can't be regulated very well; the bathroom window won't open, so there's no way to really air it out; maintenance response is not always good (though recently improved); power outages due to old wiring. AND the management will occasionally try to screw you over (or maybe they're just incompetent), so you have to be on top of things. On the other side, there is room for negotiations when it comes re-newing your lease. So go ahead, haggle!
