I have nothing bad to say about my apartment, and all the negative comments are news to me. I love the management, they remember my name and my apartment number in a large building, they fix things promptly and are very pleasant about it, and they're understanding about my status as a student who sometimes has to wait for loans to pay her rent. I have never even SEEN a bug in the building, let alone had problems with them. In my price range and with a cat, this apartment was MILES ahead of anything else I looked at. My apt. was renovated before I moved in, but even without the renovation (It was unrenovated when I saw it and chose to rent) it was STILL far above anything else.

There is constant effort to renovate and improve the building. Apparently the Apts. are being updated (as mine was) when new tenants arrive (you, happy readers!), they are working on a new club room in the basement that should be really great, they've replaced locking doors with a fob system, they've also just changed the package delivery system.

Again, I have had no problems, I LOVE where I live, and I would reccomend this place to anybody and everybody. I just spent the morning working in the courtyard, it was quiet and very pleasant.

I wrote this review, but forgot to add: a possible reason for all the negative comments is that they will skew down because people who are satisfied tend not to post. I only came to this site after getting a flyer under my door about a tenants' association, and I was mystified as to why one was started. I would bet skewing downward is a site-wide problem, so be aware.

I don't know who you are or where you live, but it's clearly not in the Cheasapeake. I have lived in the Cheasapeake for over 3 years and the only nice thing I have to say bout the place is that my neighbors are nice people and the maitenance staff is excellent. However, bugs (roaches) do literally come out of the pipes, the apartments are so hot in the winter, you have to keep the window open, the management/leasing staff is unresponsive and rude. I specificially asked several times about roaches before I moved in and was lied to about the problem. I have lived in DC for 8 years in apartments and this is the first time I have had to deal with roaches. I actually have to exterminate my apartment myself once a month b/c the Cheasapeake refuses to do so. In addition to the fact that something in the building is ALWAYS broken, be it the elevator, the door, or whatever. I have also discovered that b/c most of the building works during the day and is not home, at least twice a month, the water is shut off for "emergency matinance" during the day. Lastly, to this day there is no hot water in my bathroom sink. This was supposed to be fixed before I moved in and now I am continuously told it will be fixed. 3 years later...nothing. Do not be fooled by appearances. Living at the Cheasapeake sucks.

Waoh; I am amazed at the discrepancy of experiences among tenants. I have had excellent experience living at the Chesapeake for more than 2 years, and when I compare with the experience of other friends living in other buildings in DC, I consider myself lucky. I have had many 2 times a bug in my apt, over such period of time in C, it's quite excellent; maybe it is because I live on the top floor. I would agree with the statement that it is too hot in the winter; but again, show me an old building that gets it right in DC!
