Not a bad place . . .

I've lived at the Cleveland House for 1 1/2 years and have mostly positive things to say about it. The apartments are relatively spacious and comfortable, although the kitchen could be bigger. My unit, a south-facing 1BR on a higher floor has huge windows along the entire length of one wall. Many days I don't need to turn on a single lamp, because I get plenty of natural light. If you would prefer to pay less money for a basement or a dingy apartment with fluorescent lights, the choice is yours.

The folks at the desk are friendly and attentive. I lived in a different building a couple years ago where, even after living there for a year, they wouldn't open the doors when I had multiple grocery bags in my hands.

Sure, the building has some quirks. I agree with the folks who say the walls are too thin, especially for weekend parties. If you're looking for complete peace and quiet, the place is not for you. But, the noise, if any, is usually mellow and unobtrusive.

I personally think the management does a good job of preventing inconvenience. When I've needed work done in the past, it usually gets done within a day or two. I've found that a quick chat with the management downstairs will get the ball rolling. Some projects have taken a couple weeks, but mostly it had to do with ordering special parts. Also, they've updated some room amenities in recent years -- they replaced all the windows and gave us all new HVAC units. I can't feel sorry for everyone who complains about parking. I have parked on the street for FREE and have never had any problems.

Finally, is the place expensive' Hell yeah! A lot of people double up -- I live with my girlfriend, for instance. It's the best we can hope for in the market, especially on the Red Line. By the way, the Gables right around the street charges a few hundred bucks more a month and it'll only save you two minutes to the Metro stop.
