I will be living in the cloisters for my second year. I have to say I like the apt because of the amount of space you get for the price. For the same price downtown, I would be living in a glorified shoe box. I don t want to go into detail about the situation that occurred at my apt but my maintenance issue trumped all the little mice and leaky wall stories on this page. It was horrible and Connie and the staff were very supportive and had my apartment fixed in 4 hours. And considering the damage (not caused by structural issues) it should have taken any normal apartment complex days to fix. They sent in a crew and everything looked as good as it did before if not better.
I have lived in apartments before and I want to make something clear. DC is built on a swamp. You are going to have bugs, muddy soil, and yes a few furry tenants. The apt I lived in before was in a very nice area and let me just say we had our problems with one or two furry ones. Put down traps and call to be put on the exterminator list. They come every two weeks it s DC Law. Most kids that live here freak out because mommy and daddy have paid their bills (and some still do), cleaned their home and on occasion wiped their a*s too. When you don t have a maid you have to clean up after yourself. I have been in so many college kids apartments here that are so gross the way they keep things. No wonder there is an infestation. I ---- you not, moldy bread left on the floor, empty beer cans, and pizza boxes in the stairwells. Not to mention the pee smell on occasion is from the drunk college kids pissing off the balcony. Again not managements fault it your neighbors. So call and file a complaint. The office is very attentive with filing them.
Yes maybe on some occasions the cloister could be more attentive. But if your going to be a tenant here. Keep in mind it s the neighbors that are irresponsible. I once had some water leak from the ceiling too. What happened' Well our upstairs neighbors thought it would be funny to clog the drain in the shower to take a bath and they oops forgot the water was running. The cloisters could not come out that night to fix it. So we got some paper towels and cleaned it up the best we could and called maintenance in the morning. They came the same day but we didn t call just once there are over 300 apartments in this complex. Sometimes you can get lost in the shuffle you should in all aspects be a self advocate while maintaining positive attitude. People are more likely to be responsive when you re nice.
For people that complain about the noise of sirens/ drunk college kids. You have eyes, you had to know you were surrounded by two universities and two hospitals. They re huge. They have massive churches on there campuses and at the hospital a helicopter landing pad. How could not see that' And there would be no college kids around' No ambulances' You live in a city; you could sit in Dupont and hear sirens too. College kids are loud, they party. People that complain should keep that in mind before moving here. And again you do have the option of filing a complaint.
Overall I have had a good experience here. Connie and her staff have always been nice to us and have tried to help us with whatever our needs were. Then again we were nice to them too. But if you move here keep in mind there is a lack of personal responsibility on the part of some tenants. And if you want it to change, then look after yourself and your things and encourage your neighbors (nicely) to do the same. You may not always feel like being nice I think that goes with any kind of homeownership. ---- happens things will inevitability go wrong. But you always have the ability to change things, move or help. Yes management plays a big part but it only goes so far unless we help out. Have some pride of place. qmzu4EHcaGAPVCPw2Fai
