I am a professional woman working in Solar Power at Dupont Circle. I have lived in The Cloisters for three years and I cannot say enough good things about the apartment, the area and the management and maintenance team. They have all been wonderful. The space is huge for DC and I would have to pay $2500-$3500 if it was on Conn. Ave. or downtown DC. The apartment itself is surrounded by trees and the balcony is a delight. There are a gazillion birds and the trees are beautiful especially in the fall. The balcony is large enough for my potted plants and a table and chairs so it's great place to enjoy a meal and just chill and on the back of the building it's very private. The location is so convenient with so many buses going right by and the Metro is an easy walk or bus ride. The fact that it is surrounded by universities and hospitals makes it very safe even though it is in North East. There is lots of green open space in all directions so the air is good even when the downtown area is having Orange Alert bad air days. I love coming home to the apartment because it is laid out so well with the two master bedroom suites at opposite ends of the so each is very private. The way they install a wall of mirrors in the dining room makes the big open "family room" or living room/dining area seem even more huge. Also the windows are floor to ceiling and that brings in lovely light year round. Having a washer and dryer inside the apartment IS FANTASTIC and so hard to get in a rental. I love that I control my ac and heat and hot water myself, also rare in a rental. My utilites are affordable as it heats up or cools off easily and fast so I keep it off when I am not home. But in 5 minutes I am cool or warm. I am on the top floor in building F and I never can hear a sound from the neighboring apts--so the walls must be very thick. Ocassionally one of the college kids throws a party in the back on the ground floor so it's noisy but in 3 years that has only happened maybe 3-4 times. So not a big deal. They don't even blast their music, it's more like some laughing and yelling so you cannot really mind it. I had a mouse vist me twice in 3 years and maintenance came and took care of it each time within a few days. For a while out at the dumpsters people were throwing trash on ground and so sometimes you might see a rat at the dumpster at night. But they got a trash compactor and that ended the problem completely. I have never once seen a roach not a single one. My neighbors are working people like myself and college students and all friendly and nice. Moving to DC was stressful as I had downsized from a home in Virginia Beach and I looked for 6 months before I found the Cloisters when I took a wrong turn one day. It has made my quality of life so much better to come home to this lovely apartment that I love. The staff made me feel welcome from the moment I walked into the office. They are professional and friendly and always anxious to solve any maintenance problem as fast as possible and reasonable. But I have had very few maintenance problems anyway. Leaky faucet, jammed lock on bedroom door, small things like that. They keep updating stuff like the wooden walkways, painting hallways, etc. the gardens which are really nice and kept up weekly with lovely green spaces to walk dogs. Pets are welcome but I never hear any barking dogs and they all seem to clean up after the dogs as the grounds are impeccably maintained. they clean the stairs in the building regularly and they have a cleaning crew out every morning picking up any litter, leaves, etc. in the streets and walkways, parking lots. Once in a great while the parking lot gets crowded and you can't find a space in front of your own building. But only maybe six times in three years--did I have to park further away than usual. And your parking for the first car is FREE--totally unheard of in DC--and believe me in 6 months I had a house share while I looked for a place to rent and I looked at probably over 50 apartments before I found the Cloisters because I am pretty picky and didn't want to settle for something that I wasn't comfortable with. And I have been totally loving living here since the day I moved in. When I have out of town guest they are always so comfortable and impressesd at what a great apartment this is within the District. Please believe me, if there are grumbling people writing stuff on this site to say otherwise, they probably had some issues and decided to be spiteful. Because I have been just completely thrilled with my experience of living here and I recommend this apartment highly to anyone who ever asks for suggestions. I think it is the best place for the money bar none within the DC limits. It's really peaceful here.
