I'm a recent tenant and so far, The Diplomat is everything I've ever wished for in a place. The price is reasonable and you still get to be only a few minutes walk from Dupont and better yet, U Street. In addition, the units have really great amenities. For their smallest sized studio, I get a walk-in closet. I've seen a lot of apartments and most studios don't have walk-in closets. Newly renovated counters in addition to new fridge and stove. (BTW, my old fridge and stove were perfectly fine before but the management still insisted on putting in a new one, except for a few chipping of paint. Yes, they are that awesome). There's also a gym (albeit small). Yes, it's close to Columbia Heights and the sketchy part of Adams Morgan and yes, sometimes, there's sketchy activity on Meridian Hill Park. But as someone who has come home at 2-3-4AM, I've never felt scared. 16th Street is well lit at all hours of the night and well, there are plenty of other people trying to get home at that time anyway...so you'll be in good (drunken) company. And the staff is awesome - Caroline and Esther. Really attentive, honest to tenants. I can't see myself ever leaving in this place...
