Great building but too noisy

Priced toward the higher end of DC's newest set of designer apartments, The Ellington offers great apartment layouts in the heart of the revitalized U Street corridor. The daytime concierge is a dream. And the amenities are fantastic (business center with conference room, party room with pool table, fitness center with cardio room, etc.)

Despite all the above raves, I cannot recommend The Ellington for one reason: THE NOISE. Part of the noise issue is not the fault of The Ellington: it is located in midst of jazz bars, late night dining and is right smack on a busy street. Three blocks down is a fire station and several blocks in the opposite direction is Howard U Hospital. And, you guessed it: all day and night criss crossing of ambulances, police sirens and fire trucks.

The bars in the same block as The Ellington empty out at 2:30 or 3:00. From that time on and for many nights of the work week (not just weekends!), their patrons spill out onto the street and hang out loudly... screaming... fighting... cursing. I could care less about their language: I just want to get back to sleep before my 6:30 am alarm!!!

My issue with Ellington management is that part of the noise that they do have control over: their rooftop regulations. You see, residents have the right to reserve a portion of the rooftop for private parties. You'd think great... small sets with friends during the summer, enjoying the views of the Washington Monument and Capitol. Sometimes. But, more often than not, they are loud excuses for nightclub experiences above your heads! The partiers rent speakers, lights, DJs and their guests drink, dance and be merry until almost 3 am! I've seen their guests passed out in hallways and have also observed them tossing their cups and cigarette butts over the roof.

I'm no prude but for $2500, I'd like to enjoy the company of my friends in my apartment... but we can't hear one another!!

My lease ends after the first of the year... I can't wait!!!
