Not Bad

Totally no frills--no gym, no parking garage, old elevators, creepy basement laundry room, etc. The small studios are just that: SMALL. Also, not so great if you cook a lot--my apartment didn't have a dishwasher, and only had an under-the-counter refrigerator. Also, remember where the building is located--right on the edge of the GWU campus, so not only are there a ton of undergrads running around outside (at all hours), but at least half the residents are students, and all the 'fun' they bring along with them (my hall reeked of pot smoke pretty much every day when I got home from work). I feel sorry for the people who lived on the end of the hall near the trash room, because there were always bags of trash being left in there (instead of going down the chute), and of course also a ton of roaches. My apartment was at the other end of the hall, and I think I only saw one roach the entire time I lived there.
I actually moved into the building right after the infamous fire, and yeah, while knowing about it was a little unnerving, nothing bad ever happened while I was there.
Now, there are also some definite pluses to the place: LOCATION! Pretty much the cheapest building in Foggy Bottom (I was paying $875 for my small studio, though I hear that they're now over $1000) I actually really liked my 'vintage' bathroom (pretty sure it was original to the building)--everything worked fine, and it was actually kind of cute.
So overall, as long as you know what you're getting yourself into, it's a perfectly good (CHEAP!) place to live, especially if you're first starting out in DC, like I was.
