I wanted to live in NW and searched many apartments along Conn Ave. I think the Gables was the best on offer. While the price is pretty expensive, you get what you pay for. The apartments are like brand new, with washer/dryer and self controlled, central (not window box) air con, which was hard to find in this area. You get the opportunity to produce a 'snag' list on arrival, and they will amend anything you see necessary. The maintenance crew are very responsive - they come the same day. The front desk are very friendly and helpful. The Post is available every day, as are bagels and (cold, weak) coffee. The residential office are all very friendly and helpful. The lobby is kept very clean, although the noise of the vacuum cleaner at 7.30am can be a bit annoying. The building is also very secure, with cameras everywhere and front desk controlled access (i hope) at all times. They state its 3 mins to the metro, but i really think its 5 mins, but not an issue, really.

The downside' I agree with other reviewers that sometimes the trash overflowing at ground level in the trash room is disgusting. Also, the roof deck could be improved on - other nearby apartments have done much more with their decks. There's nothing much up there - they could make more of the 'dead' space available and put a few chairs and tables etc. The flooding issue that one of the other people mentioned hasn't affected me. However, the courtyard is pretty boring - it too could be improved on.

All in all, a fine place to live, and probably as good as you'll get in this location at this price.
