Great floorplan, lousy management

Positives: The studio apartments do have great floorplans- there's a step down from the kitchen/dining area to the main room which makes a big difference to the feel of the space. The rent is reasonable for the neighborhood. The pool is decent. The kitchen was pretty new and the walk-in closet was huge.

Negatives: Not very soundproof/smell proof. On one side I could hear a neighbor's pounding music, on the other I could smell the neighbor's cigarettes. Management turned off the A/C in September and the apartment was sweltering throughout the winter without it. I never turned on the heat but would routinely come home to 85 degrees. My bathroom ceiling started leaking and continued to leak every time the upstairs people took a shower. I put in work requests no less than 5 times, only to be told every time that the ceiling wouldn't be fixed until it actually fell down. The front desk is manned by two old ladies who live in the building and any other kind of management is hard to get ahold of-- obviously you can't yell at someone who looks like your grandmother. Even though I requested 3 times that the callbox be routed to my number, it never happened the entire time I lived there. No amenities besides the pool- they redid it in the Spring by redoing the concrete. However, they didn't remove the dead plants or replace the rusted patio furniture.
When I gave notice that I was moving out, I was told that I had to pay for extra rent becuase I didn't give 30 days notice- even though nothing on my lease required 30 days notice and DC law does not require a 30 days notice. After a lengthy fight with the manager, they finally agreed not to charge me.

I don't know anything about parking as I don't have a car.
