Do Not Rent

Several reasons to stay far, far away from this place:
rodent/mice/roach infestation (weekly pest control to apply bandaid fixes to major problem);
airconditioning issues (old convectors in several apartment units that do not function properly - makes it quite unbareable during summer months - management won't change unit to newer model because some air pumps out - also, convector is a health problem because it is very dirty and shoots out dust, paint chips, and other hazardous waste that tenants breath in on a daily basis);
plumbing is awful (no pressure during morning and evening times - hot and cold water are not consistent and often go in and out during a shower - water turned off at least weekly due to some "unknown/unexplained" plumbing problem);
safety concerns (homeless people sleep in our building - murder last year on 7th floor - several sexual assaults over the past several years - security staff come on around 9 and stay throughout the night but often are found sleeping - some security staff report the problems they find but nothing is ever done to remedy them);
janitor (hired several janitors as live-on maintenance with little or no qualifications - so nothing gets fixed. also, several have been fired but residents are not told why, which is a problem because tenants have a right to know - especially when these people have free access to all apartments and many tenants are single females living alone);
poor air quality (allergy problems and breathing issues due to substandard air quality and a severe cigarette smoke problem - smoke seeps into apartment and literally smells as if someone smoked in my apartment).
just stay away and save yourself from all the headaches. the little you save in rent is not worth your health or sanity.

If you feel like this place is such crap then why don't you just move out. I've worked in property management for several years and there are stipulations as to why you as a resident are not told why someone was let go. It's really not your business. They building is like 50 years old, what do you expect? There is no way to forsee a plumbing issue till it happens, mice are hard to avoid considering your in the middle of the city, duh. if your resident manager is not handling the issues, then call the corporate office. You choose to stay and live in the environment. All apartments come with issues. If you don't want to deal with it, buy a house.

listen - i am simply providing information to potential renters. i handled the situation accordingly and within the means available to me. upon realizing things were not going to improve, i did move out. i've lived elsewhere in the city and did not live among mice and roaches. being from NYC, i know what it's like to live in a city, thank you very much. living in the city does not mean you automatically have to live with mice, roaches, and other disease-ridden species.

Ha, ha, and yeah, she should really "call the corporate office." Ha, ha. Go ahead an call them. They won't return calls, don't have an answer, and they all sound guilty -- like they know they're working for slumlords.
