I lived there about two years ago (I am just now finding this site). Here's my opinion:
The Good:
Management is very friendly. A woman named Ms. Bush was the manager when I moved there. Very, nice, very caring and always willing to help out no matter what the situation was. Speaks to you by name, smiles, very helpful
Apartment was nice size. I shared a 1 bedroom with my roommate and we had plenty of space considering it was only a 1br. Hardwood floors in my apt (I noticed others had carpet), large windows in living area...nice sized bathroom
Maintenace request were usually handled in 3 days or less (usually less).
Kitchen was newly renovated so no problems with appliances.
NO roach problems. I think i saw 2 the entire time I was there (about 2 years)
Metro bus right at corner (georgia ave) as well as fast food places
Never heard my neighbors (an occassional door closing or keys in the lock was all I ever heard on either side or across from me.)
THE BAD
Laundry room leaves little to be desired. It is huge, but looks like a dungeon. It's in the basement so you have to carry your clothes up and down 3 flights of steps to wash, dry etc. There are only 3 washers and dryers so after having traveled up and down steps you may have to come back if they are all in use.
Basement is stinky, dark, creepy. Always waterbugs crawling around. You also have to come down to the basement and GO OUTSIDE to take garbage to the dumpster. The dumpsters are in an alley and its scary going out there all the time to dispose of trash.
The neighborhood is not so great. It is VERY convenient to Howard University but that's the only good thing about it! Constant noise outside (people fighting, arguing, sirens, police helicopters).
Police were always looking for someone with helicopters or had the street blocked off to baracade any suspects.
Cars were constantly being vandalized and broken into by the neighborhood drug addicts. And that's if you were lucky enough to get a spot on the same block!
hallways have dirty carpet that needs to be changed (it may be different by now).
front door is not very secure because it is either always broken or people buzz anyone in who rings a bell.
Rent gets increased quite often and without notice.
They tell you they have air conditioning, but then they charge you for a window unit. (was 60/mo.) This only cools off one room in the house so bring a fan!!!!!
