A pretty good deal for independents

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
When I came here looking for an apartment, I was a student-to-be. The one bedroom was a little more than what I was looking to spend, but the kitchens in the studios were much too small for someone like me who likes to cook. The manager was very reasonable in negotiating a reduced leasing price (which went up once my lease expired, but hey, whose doesn't'), and was overall pretty accommodating to my situation, as she has dealt with other Catholic University students before. I've had no problems with my apartment, aside from a lost cockroach or two wandering across my floor and a few small ants that tried to come into my apartment during a Spring thaw. I have to give extra kudos to the head of maintenance, Tony, who gave me his cell phone number in case I had any problems and needed immediate assistance, which he always provided with kindness and concern.
A couple of negatives are that the manager, Barbara, who is supposed to be in her office from 9-5, Monday-Friday, is often times not there. This was an annoyance when I needed to talk to her and attempted to come in at 9 (making myself late for work and often times coming away empty-handed for it). When I called and got an answering machine, it was pointless leaving a message because I mostly did not get a call back. When you need to reach her, it's best to talk to her face to face (which means gambling on the fact that she will be in her office) or calling and talking to her directly (not leaving a message). If you ever need immediate assistance for a maintenance or pest issue, I would contact Tony, who pretty much always answers his phone and often times is a stand-in for Barbara when she's not in her office.
Another thing is that the walls are pretty thin. If there is someone above you with hardwood floors, you will hear them tromping around upstairs. There are families living here, so in the mornings there will often be kids on their way to school walking down the hallway and talking loud/yelling. If you get an apartment that is street-side and you're not used to city noise, you either will be soon or it will wake you up in the middle of the night when an ambulance goes by. In terms of safety, if you always lock your apartment door and remain aware of your surrounding, you should be fine. Sometimes people think it's a good idea to prop the outside doors open, but feel free to kick them closed. In general, the people here are pretty friendly and make decent neighbors.
Overall, this is a very nice place if you are an independent person and want a cozy place to live in the city that's not too pricey. It's a 15-20 minute walk away from Catholic University, and the H8 bus comes right by the apartments. I was very happy with my find!
