I never actually lived at the Jefferson, but I did put down a deposit to hold an apartment for 48 hrs. Within the 48 hrs, I decided not to take the apartment and I called to let them know. The leasing agent said that he had my deposit check in his hand and that he could shred it for me. I told him to shred it, but when I checked my checking account a week later I saw that the check had been cashed. It turns out that the check was deposited on the day I wrote it, and that when he had offered shred my check that he was holding, he couldn't have since it was already deposited. I ended up getting the check back in about 3 days, after initially being told it would take me 10-14 days to have it returned to me.

I don't understand the initial posting. How was the check deposited if he then later received it? Logically that can't be.
