Not worth the money

I was moving to DC for work, and had a weekend to find a place. I wanted to stay in the Dupont or Logan Circle areas, and the Jefferson seemed like a good bet. I moved from a city with old houses converted to apartments and on first look, the Jefferson seemed like quality new construction.

I was wrong.

From the moment I moved in I've had problems. After unloading my car and getting settled, I found I couldn't take a show because there was no hot water to the tub. The dishwasher was falling out of the slot. When my upstairs neighbor moved in, I had water coming through the ceiling because they forgot to seal his tub.

I've had 7 maintenance requests to have my heating/air conditioner fixed. They still aren't sure what's wrong with it. Originally the problem was that it was always on heat. The fan would be off but the register would be hot. With the thermostat set at 55, it was over 80 in my apartment. The maintenance man tried to convince me that the heat was on because I had the thermostat set low. I knew I was in for a rocky ride at that point. It took them 2 months (and 3 electric bills of about $200 each) to figure out that a piece of metal had fallen onto the heating element and shorted out the heating element so it was ALWAYS ON. (They did reimburse me some of the electric bill.)

Then it got warm, and I've had problems with the AC ever since. It works intermittently, so they come and see it's working and leave. Then when I call them back when it's not working, they call in the repair company and it works for a few weeks, max.

The rules have proliferated since I've moved in. We are not allowed to use the common areas after 10 pm because some people complained about the noise. First off, a better solution would be to make a rule that you have to be quiet after 10. Why can't I sit quietly on the roof at 11 pm' An even better solution would be to not rent an apartment on the 1st or 2nd floor overlooking the courtyard if you're a light sleeper. Why should I be inconvienced because you're stupid'

Several of the front desk staff have been rude to guests, and even made them call up AFTER I've buzzed them in from the front door. The night shift guy can often be found sleeping in the common area at night and early in the morning.

The pool is tiny and the exercise room is poorly equipped. The TV's at the cardio machines are frequently not working. I joined a real gym shortly after moving in because I'd rather pay for working equipment than have that gym for free.

If you want to pay a lot of money for a mediocre apartment, then this is the place for you. But hurry. I think it'll be falling apart within 2-3 years, at which point they'll probably try to go condo and cut their losses. 3mPoZ6gGN6wTPgNi4L2C
