Yo!

JETU Apartments. Not enough Gentrification, yet. Sad commentary.

I have lived in Jetu longer than most tenants here. It's a money thing. They take your rent money and do nothing in return.

Yard pickup of litter is none existant. The yard workers see it and then they leave it. There is NO litter removal on weekends and holidays. JETU personnel wlak by grafitti daily and still it is not removed. Sucks, we need help here!

The young black men spend all day drinking and getting high and higher. There is herion use in this community. There is prostitution in this community. The maintenance personnel spend time talking to the unwed mothers in the community and not completing rudimentary maintenance procedures. It can take months or longer for minor repairs in your apartment to be completed.

Water in the building units is routinely cut off without WARNING!

Parking on JETU parking lots is terrible. Tenants block each other in parking spaces. Then you must wait for the blocker to release the blockee. Management does nothing to fix this. You must ask people to please let you walk up or down the steps and walkways to your apartment unit.

Unfortunately, I believe the only way to improve this neighborhood is for more white people to move in.

But then the poor black people will have no place to live.

This community is lost. An example: the intersection of 21st Street, NE and Maryland Avenue, NE is well known as "Little Vietnam."

Do yourself a favor: visit the property after 6p.m. on weekdays and after noon on weekends. That gives the crooks and druggies time to come out.

Signed,
A resident.

PS - To Whom It May Concern: If you are a resident of Carver Terrace/ JETU Apartments and have lived here longer than one week and you have not seen these issues, then you are either blind or working for Wm. C. Smith and Company.

A further note, the empty little plastic drug bags that marijuana and rock cocaine are sold in are strewn all over the sidewalk and pathways to the apartments. Tobacco from cheap cigars is emptied all around the steps. The Metropolitan Police know that this stuff goes on. Empty beer and liquor bottles are left in the front yards every night. A dead body was found in the Phelps Vocational High School GREENHOUSE facility about six months ago.

I do not have to be a drug user or take part in any of this illegal stuff to see what is going on. Right in front of my face, it goes on 24 hours everyday. But, I am observant of my surroundings, as I should be. Nor did I name this neighborhood 21st and Vietnam. You must be blind, miss. Ha.

i have never had a problem with getting maintenance issues resolved. granted, i haven't live here for over a decade, but i've been here long enough to see the best and the worst of the community. i am satisfied. there aren't many places in the city where i could live in a clean and functional one bdrm apt with all utilities included for under $650/mo. the water gets shut off from time to time. THESE ARE OLD BUILDINGS! GET OVER IT! they definitely put flyers on everyone's door to let them know. plus, the water is only generally off during regular business hours. if you have a regular 9-5ish job, you shouldn't have a problem. parking is bad all over dc. again, get over it. if you want a guaranteed space, move somewhere where you can pay for it. i never park in the lots. i always find a space on the street near my home regardless of the time of day or night. the furthest i've ever parked is a block and a half away. the "young black men" that live in the area aren't scary or bothersome. they may not be the most sober, but they have never been disrespectful to me (a female) or any of my friends (male or female). if anything, they are very nice. white people aren't the answer to all problems. give me a break. white people in the area are the reason why you probably still live here - them moving into the city has made all of the nicer apartments more expensive. i know that people use drugs somewhere in the area, but i don't know where or what. to assume heroin means that you are really close to the users and you may want to report the offenses. maybe that would help the situation. the comment about the unwed mothers was more than unnecessary. actually, the whole post was unnecessary. the apartments are cute and cosy. the management is nice and on top of things. the neighbors are sweet and helpful. i think the children in the neighborhood stay out a little later than they should, but htat's on their parents. they aren't bothering anyone, but they should probably go to bed. i encourage people to come on over to jetu and take a look.

The comments that I left are for anyone interested. I had just happened across this website by accident. I feel it is my duty to tell people interested in this community about this community. That's one of my jobs. It sounds like you are an employee of JETU Apartments. Just two weeks ago the police were at 21st and I street, NE questioning Junior High School students about a 15 yearold with a gun....

I currently live in Jetu and just THIS EVENING when i cut on the lights to my kitchen I saw a mouse run and hide right in my gas STOVE! I placed a phone call to the main office, where i spoke to the operator. She informed me she would tell the custodian on duty. After 20 or so minutes of hearing nothing, I called back only to be told by the operator that the custodian told her that there was nothing they could do (why did I have to call back to find this out? Shouldn't either she or the custodian on duty have called me to tell me this?) and she advised me that I should call ""Pest Control", when I asked her for the number to Pest Control, she informed me that she didn't have it! I am going to the main office tomorrow to OFFICIALLY tell them that this (October) is my LAST MONTH staying here, and also inform them of how poorly this RENT PAYERS situation was handled..oh by the way I have spotted the move in and around the stove twice later on this evening!
