I lived there a few years back while I was in grad school. overall i had a very positive experience. the doorman, frank, was extremely nice and helpful. the maintenance guy, andre, was excellent and lived in the building full time. anytime something broke it would be fixed usually the same day. i had a new hot water heater installed in my apt., and i let the guys stay in my apt while i was out for the day to do it since i trusted them. the parking garage is good, but it is expensive, as all indoor parking garages are. the rooftop area is nice, there are parties up there that people have sometimes. the lobby is very nice. the hallways are clean, never smell at all. some of the people in the mgmt office when i was there were not the nicest or most helpful at times, and they raise the rent every year by a lot. how can someone expect to stay there' if they raise the rent by 10%, and your salary doesn't go up by 10%- in most cases, it would stay the same, what the hell are you supposed to do' overall though it is an excellent building in a very nice area (by dc's standards)

In 2003-2005 I would have agreed with this review, but in 2007 it no longer applies. Residents have put up with over 3 months of construction, which included floods, vermin, early morning drilling, and indifferent management. What did the residents get for all this inconvenience? In my case, a $485/month rent increase. The Latrobe doesn't care about the residents anymore, just the $$$. Rent here and you will get taken advantage of. P.S. You were right about one thing, Frank is a great guy.

Frank is very helpful and courteous. But a few years back is not today--August 2007--things are extremely different now. Residents do not matter to management except for their monthly rent check. Dirty hallways, dust from construction, dirty elevators, waiting long periods of time for the elevators makes for poor living at the Labtrobe.
