Violation of private property, intrusive environment due to construction, misleading and rude management

These are just some of the many negative things at The Latrobe. In my many years renting apartments, I have never had such a bad experience as at The Latrobe. The issue is severe enough that I have decided to leave the building after 3 months.
For the records, I am 30 and really busy. The only reason for taking the time to do this is because the situation is really bad.
**Violation of private property: I came back from work one day to find around 15 workers in my apartment who had NO AUTHORIZATION from me to come in and who left it in a complete (no exaggeration) mess and expected me to put all back in order
**Lies on the length of the construction: do not underestimate the annoyance of the non-stop construction noise (I can t even have a phone conversation sometimes). Before moving, management told me that it was going to be done by the end of the summer 07, now it will be at least one more year
**Lies on the availability of amenities: different from what I was told by the management prior to signing the lease, there is no gym and the big gym they are promoting is over 8 months delayed. There is no roof deck either
**Non-responsive or responsible management: The top of all was the recent flood in my apartment, which made stay at a hotel for 3 nights while workers came in and out of my place, and while 3 large construction fans were inside my bedroom and all things from the closet in my bed. On top of the discomfort of all of this happening as a result of the management s work on the water pipes, the management at the front desk was non-apologetic or empathic, asking me to pay for my own hotel room while this was fixed. Three days later, I came back to my apartment and I did not have hot water for other 2 days. This is when I decided it was enough.
I pay a lot of money (in relative and absolute terms) that do not justify the many issues that I have had in this building. The making this your home slogan does not fit the culture of the management team
ADVICE! There are actually many options in the area and my advice to any of you evaluating The Latrobe is that you really think twice. It will give you a non-ending and expensive headache

Sounds like a message from an apartment competitor who needs some resident business. Shameful tactic my friend... Viva Latrobe!!!

Do not think a tenant would take the time to respond to people's negative opinion about The Latrobe or any building. The management of The Latrobe should really step out of this public conversation among current or potential tenants, and let free opinion just be.

Huh - I just wrote another review that specifically mentions the same flood this reviewer mentioned. I could actually hear the water pouring through the walls that night, and could see it leaking out of electrical sockets - especially the ones near the circuit breaker box, which had me VERY concerned. They also gave me some fans to dry the carpet, but never came to shampoo it even though I had requested they do so because it had begun to mold. Anyway, it is ultimately your choice whether to use this advice or not - but my response to you, the reader, is to disregard any hearsay and simply go by the facts. If the place has issues with flooding, unresponsive management, and constant construction - stay away.

I think no one should stop free opinion and I do not think it happens here. I just moved in last weekend and I have been solicited by two residents that in my opinion (should move) can't afford the Latrobe. Thank godness the place is going under renovations because just look at the former pics. This place and the staff is grade A and hopefully they can raise the prices so high they get a bettr class of people and thank you to the angry drunk resident on the 8th floor who should me this site (hope she is priced out too)!!

actually i can back this guy up. i moved in at the beginning of the summer with no warning of construction and a total building renovation. The noise started at 7am and went til 7pm. I was unfortunately home most of the summer and had to wake/be out of the apartment based on their construction schedule. Long story short, i complained in early june 07 and they told it would all be done by the end of the month...then another month, then another... the construction still continues and ruins my mornings just as it did during the summer. I too have come home to workers in my apartment unannounced. Also had problems with electric/utilities in the apartment. Luckily the maintenance people are prompt and effecient, but the management has changed at least 3 times (in its entirety) since ive been here. so, nice apartment dont get me wrong, but not worth the high prices. I would rate it 5 out of 10 maybe. the noise of the construction really makes me want to say less.
but thats just my two cents.
