Great location. False advertising

Bottom line: don't move here for the fitness center, roof deck or patio because they probably aren't coming anytime soon. And don't believe the time estimates the management tells you either.

Pros
- Right next to Whole Foods and a short walk to Safeway
- 5 blocks to Dupont Metro (red line) and 6 blocks to McPherson Square Metro (blue/orange lines)
- Recently renovated apartments with new appliances
- Never seen a mouse or cockroach in my apartment
- Cheap utilities, $20/month
- Maintenance has been quick to respond

Cons
- The in-unit washer/dryer sucks. The washer/dryer is one, single machine that does both washing and drying, but doesn't do either very well. Plus, it leaks if I put in two regular-sized bath towels by themselves. WTF'! (It's nice that they do have "regular" washers and dryers down the hall, but I'm paying a ---- ton of money for a place and want an in-unit washer and dryer that works.)

- Big problems with the water pipes. The lobby had flooded three times. I've heard of other people getting flooding in their apartments. And my apartment flooded when a pipe in the ceiling broke. Minimal damage, but still very annoying.

- Consistently lied to about the completion date of the community features (fitness center, roof deck, patio). I moved in about eight months ago. At that time, the management said "we'll have the roof done in an month and the fitness center done in two months." Nope!

Then, in June, the management posted a letter in the elevator saying that the roof would be done in time to watch the fireworks and the fitness center would be done by the end of July. Nope, more lies!

They're obviously making progress on those projects, but they've hired the slowest construction crews on the planet.

In fact, I've spoken to people who have lived here for a few years, and the Latrobe management has been promising these jobs to get done since those folks moved in. I'm tempted to file a suit for false advertising and see if the tenants can get some cashback.

If I had known that these projects would take so long, I would have moved into The Flats at Dupont.

i completely agree with this person. The location is perfect. The maintenance staff come the same day and are always so gracious and helpful. That being said... The lying that occurs is outrageous. I moved signed a lease in June of 2007 for a September move in. They promised that the gym and roof deck would be completed. Now its the middle of October 2008 and still no gym or roof deck. As for the pipes... the builders of the building used a trendy/cheap alternative in the 1980s. This material ended up being part of a class action lawsuit in the 1990s and the builders and owners of the building received money but they never changed the pipes! They are always leaking. My apartment flooded and destroyed my things. I received no compensation. Furthermore, I have walked up to pick a package to hear Usman (the leasing agent) lying to potential renters. I always make a point correct the situation or ask when I will be compensated for the flood. Also, if you are a non-smoker because you hate the smell and worry about your health.. this would not be the right building for you. My neighbor smokes and the smoke seeps into my apartment all the time. I am constantly running a fan and candles.. but my stuff still smells like smoke.
