The Latrobe looks very nice from the outside, but beware.

I'm actually on this site looking at New York apartments, and decided to read other postings about my old DC residence, The Latrobe. I cannot believe it is still this bad. I broke my lease in April of 05 because of the constant flooding and the mice. I was one of the first to report the mice to the city, and an inspector came to the grounds and cited them. I decided not to bring suit, once they told me I could leave mid lease, and I moved to NYC. The building and management were terrible in 05, and from the other recent postings, continue to be. It started out as a great place until AIMCO took over. THe real deterioration started in 04. By then, I had lived there 8 years, I know when I left the rents were getting out of control, so I imagine they are still that way. Also, right before I left, they started renovating some apartments and renting it to a company that would rent by the day, like the place was a hotel. One apartment was next door to me would have foreigners in and out all day, and in any given week, I could find 4 different people from different locations entering the place, and making noise as if it was a hotel. It was unsafe, and unethical. I also wrote a long letter to management about this, which is another reason I'm sure they let me break lease. Again, these problems at the Latrobe are not new, and have been going on for at least 4 years now. The tenants should all get together and sue Latrobe management. They are indeed liars, and obviously corrupt. Good luck. PS. I read a couple of postings about Frank, and it's true, he was the best worker in that building -- great guy. However, I'm not sure if things have changed since I was there, but he is not part of their staff. He was a security guard hired by another firm. And this is a testament to his work ethic, because he always cared about the tenants, and treated you with respect and care. Unlike the Latrobe staff.
