A very nice and safe place to live.

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2003
I have been living here for almost four years, and would like to comment on my experiences.
It is true that there is a lot of traffic noise from Wisconsin Avenue, especially with the tour buses at the Cathedral, but when you are considering renting an apartment located on that side of the building, is this not something you would notice right away' Why would you rent an apartment on that side of the building if you thought it would be too noisy' I'm sure there were available apartments located at the opposite end of the building that does not face a major thoroughfare.
Regarding the staff, I have never had a problem with the property manager, the front desk staff or the maintenance staff. They have always been helpful and courteous whenever I had packages delivered or needed something fixed. I have talked with them and seen the way they handle inquiries from prospective tenants and have found them to be very professional and courteous.
I have not had a problem with rodents or other pests, and the only time I hear noises from my neighbors' apartments is when I open my door to leave. I think the walls are pretty sound considering the building is at least 50 years old.
When I came here in 2000, the property manager was very helpful and friendly in getting me settled in. The front desk and maintenance staff were also friendly -- even going so far as to carry my sofa, which was too large for the elevator, up several flights of stairs.
The safety of the building is better than some places in that same block. You need a key to open the front and back doors, as well as the laundry room, which I may add, has always clean and well lit when I have used it. I can tell you that as a single female, I feel safer here than in a lot of other places.
I am very happy living in this building, and plan to stay a while. That's my choice. If you are not happy, then you should move to someplace where you will be happy.
In closing, I would like to suggest that the next time you go apartment hunting, try to schedule an appointment in the evening, say around 5:30-6:00 p.m. during the week when there are more people at home and they're watching t.v. or playing the stereo; then you'll get a better idea of the noise level within your prospective apartment. Also, another helpful hint would be that if you're apartment hunting, and you find the staff are rude and not helpful, and there are dimly-lit hallways, dirty carpeting and out-of-order washing machines in the laundry room, that is an indication of how it will be once you move in; so don't sign a lease.
