Where to begin' As I was reading someone elses review I was thinking to myself, did I write this' This is the worst apartment experience I have truly ever had. I have lived in some bad places where terrible things happened (ceiling caving in, mold growing through closet, maintenance breaking in and stealing) but Marbury Plaza takes the cake. Marbury Plaza looks like a great place to live it is very roomy, depending the side you live on a great view but the buck stops there.
-When the leasing office first shows you an apartment they show you an apartment in the front building and it usually has a view and nice cabinets and beautiful carpet. (You never know there is a back building until they move you in to it)
- The front building is considered the best building because image wise it is kept clean for potential renters. But the back building is terrible. Water is leaking from the lobby ceiling in the same spot since I have moved there. Then they won't fix it the just place a bucket and pots under it now how ghetto is that.
-I was still requesting the same issues to be fixed since the day I moved in and this including;
*Window screens/balcony screens (for the entire year I lived there I had no screens and when I opened my window bugs flew in and out my house)
*My tubs/sinks/toilets were running since the day I moved in.
- My cabinets were very old at least over 20 years. They are dry rotting on my dishes and pots. (I know this because the leasing agent told me that the same lady had the apartment for over 20 years)
- My closet doors were off the tracks and had been since I moved in.
-My air conditioner leaked and the water got into my couch.
-I came home to find my door knob off my door the only thing that stop someone from coming in that I have an extra lock on my door.
-A tree fell on to two cars and damage them badly.
- The grounds are so bad I broke my toes on the sidewalk because the foundation was uneven.
- The kids loitering are horrible. The stand out in the lobbies in front of security and run on the roofs of the breezeway.
-The staff is lower than dirt. The maintenance men never come to fix issues. But you do see them walking thru the building drunk half the time. The security well there really isn't security, just flashlight cops who sit and talk about the residents all day. The front desk attendants all like high school dropouts.
-My newspaper was missing every morning. If I am not out exactly when it is delivered to my door it is gone 1 min later. And it isn't just me my neighbor told me that she caught a person taking her paper and it was a resident.
- That bottom level smells like cooked trash and if you move in that will more than likely be your apartment. There are trying now to fix them up just for new tenants. They small like mold and then the hallways smell of piss.
- Parking is the worst there are not enough spaces, residents park their cars sideways to hold spaces and leasing doesnt care. I have to call the police to get the issue handled. There are a number of parking spaces being utilized by broken down cars that have not been removed.
MORE IMPORTANTLY IS THE EXPLOSION THAT HAPPENEND IN JAN 2005. THE RESIDENTS IN THE FRONT BUILDING WERE OUT OF THERE HOMES FOR OVER A WEEK. TWO PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES. THE EXPLANTION THE IS GIVING THE PUBLIC IS A LIE. THE BUILDING IS VERY UNSTABLE THE FOUNDATION IS MOVED. THE RESIDENTS STILL DON'T HAVE GAS AND WON'T UNTIL APRIL. THEY HAVEN'T YET REDUCED THERE RENT. THEY ARE STILL PAYING FULL RENT..
MAYBE YOU ENJOY LIVING IN HELL IF YOU DO THEN THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU. BETTER YET IF THE PEOPLE WHO GAVE GOOD RATINGS TO THIS APARTMENT BUILDING LIVED IN THE FRONT BUILDING OR ARE STILL THERE I BET THEY WILL CHANGE THEIR MINDS... I DO UNDER STAND THAT NO ONE KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE GETTING INTO WHEN THEY MOVE INTO AN APARTMENT BUT THIS IS A WARNING.AS FOR ME I MOVE ONCE MY LEAST WAS UP AND NOT A MINUTE LATER

I was just looking thru the site and after reading the first review, I came accross this one. First, if this person is going to be talking about high school drop outs, s/he should be checking their own grammar and spelling first...Second, judging from the grammas, s/he most likely is not an architect so I don't know how true the inormation on stability and foundation of the building is. Also, whould the city allow them to still conduct business if the building was unstable? Just a thought...And lastly, why did you move in if it's so terrible? Why are you still there?

I think that you are one of two things, either very bored or you work for the company that either manages or owns those buildings. If you have ever lived in that complex, you would know how terrible things were and still are. Also, just as people are paid off to lie about the stability and accuracy of other things that building is far from being excluded. Also, were you there when the explosion occurred? Probably not! But I will assure you that as old as that building is, the foundation was shook from the ground up. I was there in the building to know. So before you try to critcize a person about their personal opinion you should try and uderstand that s/he is not you, obviously has a different opinion that yours and is reaaly not concerned with whether or not she received an A on their grammar from anyone who reads their commentary but it was done more on the side of distributing information for people to utilize it for informational purposes.

This is a reply to the user search1. You uost be an employee because I was a resident and everything that was said about Marbury Plaza was true. Unless you are an English teacher you shouldn?t worry about the spelling or grammar of another user. S/he was just speaking their mind about the horrible living conditions at Marbury Plaza. Question is are you an architect or better yet did you live there or do you currently? Were you there when the building moved. Well I was and I was at the pointless meetings about why the explosion happened and why it is taking so long to fix the issues with the building. And just to tell you I moved. So before you go and play English teacher because someone miss spelled a word or two or forgot to add a period do something important with you life. As the user stated we were promised prorated rent however we were still paying full price. The persons working at the front desk do act like high school dropouts. The buildings are terrible. I went and the back building and it is nasty. Not to mention the all of the other problems in the building.

Wow, I moved to this community about a month ago. I agree. Since I have been here in the "back tower" 2 elevators has been out of order and out for a period of time. My a/c work i guess whenever the staff cuts it on. The front door to the building lock has not been working and in this heat i have had to argue with a person over the intercome to let me in. She suggest that I carry my bags all the way to the front to gain entry. It has taken me over 4 hours to wash 10.00 worth of clothes. The washers are not working and to make matters worse you that fire i am now reading about. how about the tenant in the front tower gets to reduce 5% from there rent as well as obtain keys to our building and laundry rooms. How fair is that. where is 7 - 9 % discount for having to pay for their ---- ups. Last but not least. I went to shower on yesterday during the day on a Sunday. I had no hot water all day in my unit. I woke this morning to find the water was boiling hot. As I went to store downstairs as well tacky... I never been into a store who sells bootleg dvds, cuts hair for 5.00 as well entertain anyone who stops in. I agree after not having use to an elevator I took a walk down the stairs. Listen, who in their right mind would put carpet near a swimming pools. I saw Palmetto Cockroaches all over the place not roaches Cockroaches. I also agree that security and staff is a joke. I have seen the maintence superivor walk around the commuinty after work ours as if she really representing the hood of Souteast DC. She had on house shoes hair not comb with a comb stuck in it. I rolled my eyes at her and she saw and I didn't care. Last but not least back to my shower. I was in the store I heard conversation from many people on the way there. One lady was walking into the elavator with boxes and she over heard me talking. She then says "septermber first i am the hell out of here." I then ran into "Lee" maintence worker. She was holding a conversation with someone and i asked her what was up with the water yesterday. she said "the boiler was turned off." I think thats saving the property money would you agree? I then asked her did i do the right thing by moving here. she walked away and said there is your answer as well she stated that employees where seeking new jobs. I agree with the office staff. I really think whom ever hired these staff only read the part they had a previous job. this staff has no skills. actually i have had to do their job on an administraion level. i was also told by a resisdent this very morning which is today that there was a tenant strike in the building lasting more than 3 years and when the new owners where in the middle of taking over they tried to get there money out of escrow. if anyone knows who a TAMMY GREENE is please have her email me at countryboysdream2000@yahoo.com I heard this lady was a thorn in their side. The only reseaon i choose this apartment was for the size and the bus line as well as my view. Good thing my credit is in order they are seating on the property for a reason. I have had the chance to see what is planed for good hope road/ MLK Ava/ Alabama Ave. It will happen and I plan to be ready for condo conversion. This is sad. Over $1100.00 a month for rent and ---- don't work that includes the staff. |

Get together and strike. Get an attorney to hold your rent in escrow. Organize to march outside in front of 2300 (front bldg on Good Hope Rd). Call in the TV cameras to take pictures of the very nasty lower level of 2330 (back bldg)and the store that should not be there. I have friends in that bldg and hate to go over there. It is the "REAL" ghetto. I can't remember, have they taken down the LUXURY Bldg sign? It not, cover it up or ask that they move it because it is definitely false adverstisement. However, hold on if you can. Watch who is moving in; they probably don't look like you. Property value in DC is sky rising and the high riser (MP) will be worth a fortune with that panarama view. However, you do have to keep in mind that the buildings need major work which will be costly (elevators, lost of water damages, roof, foundation, security doors, etc.). Get a good attorney (pay your tenant asso. dues)that you can trust to make sure these expensive repairs are done in the buildings before you buy. Sometimes, buying as is can be a big pain in the back. Also keep in mind that condo fees never go down and the condo will have a lot of silly rules. I know places where the condo fee is more than the mortgage. You have to do what you think is best for you. I would never buy there. Get yourself a house where you will have more control, less drama and no fees.

Ok everything that most pf these people are saying is some what of a lie. I did not live there but I did stay around there for a while. & The kids around there are not bad I know each & every one of them. & There is nothing rong with the back building it looks just as good as the front one. & They dont even have a lady at the front desk in the back building they have a man. & The people that work in the store are very nice & I know them very well. They are just trying to make a living like the rest of of. I guess people just dont understand that. & Both elevators are never broke at the same time. & If one of them is it is because some body held it open for too long.

To Dreaboo, how the hell can you say these people are lying when you never live there. I saw the apt myself and i thought it was a joke for the money that they want. Everybody is not going to say the same thing just to be saying it, these apartments are ripping off hard working people money and i don't thinks thats right.Anyways S.E is going to change so a wake up call for those who don't want nothing out of life and want to stay home. |

Most of these comments are a few years old. Call me stupid....I haven't seen a store or anything in the 2330 building....in either building. I it still there? I think that the old comments have made them step up their game...plus they are under new management. I have only been there for almost 5 months. I've had problems but nothing on the level the others are talking about. And as far as people breaking into your cars taking things, that's going to happen anywhere you go. If it's not a gated community with security you can count on someone doing that. But my advise (speaking as a woman whose car was broken into several times, in other neighborhoods) if your radio has a removable face, take it off and lock it in you glove box. If you have things on your seats that may be of some value to someone....any thing...a cd, a quarte, a carton of newports....take it with you or put it where it's not visable. People don't break into cars for nothing. If they can't see it they won't bother (unless you pissed them off at some point...I know about that too!!!)
