EVERYTHING THAT GLITTERS AIN'T GOLD!!!!

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2005

I moved into Marbury Plaza in Summer 2005.
I was misled into thinking I was moving into a LUXURY apartment when I really was moving into a Ghetto SLUM LORD,MANAGED AND OPERATED building. Where do I begin' First of all. I had to pay a lot of money to get in $1,000 plus dollars to move in. I was shown a model in the good looking front building at 2300 when the building in the back 2330 looks and feels like the apartment building that JJ Evans' Family from the GOOD TIMES SHOW lives in. That building was raggedy! The apartment I was shown was spacious the view is a panoramic view of all the monuments in DC. That is what sold me on my individual unit. I was led to believe they were about to renovate the entire complex. I have known many people who lived in the complex but none never really expressed the horrors that where going on. (ARE THEY MY REAL FRIENDS'I ask myself sometimes). This is what you get with the unit: Bad management, ghetto boys hangin out, Robberies, The ghetto boys hangin out has gotten a little better. But who likes the cold! We got to wait until summer to see whats next. People's apartment being broken into. Now remember this is suppose to be a secure building! Yeah right! As I was being shown the model unit, we passed one apartments where HIP HOP was blasting out of one apartment and weed smoke out of another. I said OK!' Mind you I was in need of an apartment and not trying to judge individuals habits. Next, I think a month or two later the building was sold to yet another out of town, lackluster owner and fly by night management company. Then there was a sewage overflow in the building in 2330. The entire lobby since about August 2005 smelled like a baby diaper trash can. There is a laundry room near the lobby that when the dryer is going a drying fabric sheet makes the lobby smell like hot trash with a hint of fragrance. You know what funky baby diapers smell like! Image putting that in the oven.
They are always cutting the heat off to fix this "ONE Pipe" so they say. Mold in the hall ways. Leaky ceilings. Carpets are filthy and dirty. Writing on walls in elevator. Dark hallways. Unsafe stairwells with damaged railing. Shady characters walking the primises sometimes. We now have The Guardian Angels acting as security. That is the joke of the day right now. We still don't feel safe. We need armed security for the heart of South East Washington. Most of the things you need fixed in your apartment, If you don't fix it yourself it may not get fixed. The complex has 674 units and only about 4 maintenance workers who can hardly fix anything, who love to have coffee cake breaks on your time. So that translated means, you may not get your service orders fixed. And when you express your anger, folks in management catch an attitude. I am not use to living in ghetto standards and not for $1000 plus dollars. I can pay someone to treat me like sh%T once a month for that amount of money and get a place to stay as well. This is me expressing the whole truth and nothing but the truth in my frustration of this treatment to hard working Washingtonians. The 92 bus line is great but a little ghetto. I don't want to hear people cussing first thing in the morning on my way to my job, especially no children. It messes with my spirit. I get to work in 15 minutes. The V5 is the well mannered bus line to L`Enfant Plaza. Whole other class of people on that bus. A lot of black people in the apartment community. Need more diversity in the community. The people seem to be in a somewhat broken state of mind or old people who can really fight back. I pray for my people. Get self esteem! Don't get me wrong I like all people. But some groups don't know how to act when you clump them all together. You know what I am talking about! Over all, when the owners and managment staff get their acts together it could be a nice building community but until then... I would not recommend this apartment building community unless it was one of the last places on earth or you just don't have no where to go. I have seen worst but we don't want to experience worst. We want the best just like anyone else.
To sum this all up for potential folks looking for residency, I would suggest then to keep looking and ask a whole lot of question when trying to find a place to live. Find the cheapest to fit your budget and plan to buy a house as your credit report or finances will allow!!!!!!
