My Thoughts / Recommendations!

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
My start with the building was rocky.
It was hard as getting in to a top choice university. Poor access to staff at the Leasing office, no follow up. My constant having to check back on the status of my application and subsequent move in date that was changed more than 3 times.
My unit was not complete upon getting my keys. It appeared exactly the same, as it was on my walk through weeks previous. It took about a month 1/2 to get all of my needs straight.
The price and unit sizes are what sold me on my new apartment. (As a new divorcee)
The general atmosphere of the building gives a BLEAK feeling. It needs a brighter paint job in the hallways, brighter lighting; artwork would be nice & new carpeting. The Laundry rooms are again up and running since the January 2005 fire. I have been on 3 different levels of the building and noticed the locked laundry room doors do need to be replaced as they all show evidence of forced entry possibly from the Jan. 05 fire. The elevators are dark and OLD. They definitely should be removed, as they sometimes have a mind of their own.
In general I find the Management/ Staff of this building not often customer service friendly. Although I have run across some that exude all that is expected. Those that are not as customer friendly I feel are not happy about interacting with tenants or not happy with their jobs. Recommendations they can all benefit from a Customer Relation class or 3.
I have found the tenants to range from one extreme to the other. The good and the bad. My difficulties at this time are on occasions the young persons who just take up space in the main lobby (near mailboxes), or B1 level just hold staring sessions. They at first can be taken as intimidating, however I do speak and they do respond. They obviously need someplace to be, the building in not pre-teen / slash teen friendly. The building is huge, recommendation is bring in a functional recreation room of some sort, or a gym would possibly alleviate the loitering. The elevators sometimes have trash from neighbors not taking the time to take with them and even worst evidence of urine or spitting.
The garage is a little godsend if you can afford it in addition to the rent. If you??re new to the building the price has gone up from $71.00 monthly to $100.00. I'm glad I got in before the price hike! The outside parking is hard to find anytime in the weekdays after 730pm.
Ultimately, I love my personal home (Unit/apt). Where else in this city can you get 1230 square feet at these prices''''
The building is changing slowly but, changes are coming. Although, I have only rented for 6-7 months, my sister has lived in the building since 1996. I support giving Marbury Plaza and it's new owners a chance at making good on a building with so much potential. It will make for happier tenants. Much of the suffering listed previously were during low, lows of the building. I would hope that we all try to bring a more united front to support the building. As I see the building may not be full to capacity, but DC that is about to topple over with mini lofts and super micro, extra small unit bldgs for 3times our current rent rates. With that said I am noticing new faces that do not just include beautiful brown hues. So Marbury Plaza has showed us all potential. Otherwise, why are you still living here'! Count your blessing for all they are worth.
