No real complaints

I originally moved to DC to go to grad school here. I was moving across the country (literally) and had to do all my research for apartments online. I ended up going for Marina View because of the price and location next to a Metro stop and Safeway.
Since I've been here, I haven't had any real problems. For a studio, it's pretty spacious. Granted, the price seemed high to me since I was coming from a place where it was about a third of the cost. But after living here and talking with friends, $900 for a studio (without paying for utilities)isn't so bad.
I haven't had any problems with hot water that others have complained about. Maybe their in the other building. My dishwasher sounds like a there's a jet taking off in my apartment for 35 minutes. But it still beats doing it by hand. The only "appliance" issue I had was two days ago, my toilet started running water constantly, even when the tank was filled up. I wrote a note and left it in the office this morning, and it was fixed by the time I got home at noon. Pretty good!
Amazingly, I never really used my heat much during the winter. I'm in the 1000 building, facing the south. So sun streams in my big windows all day, heating up this little place even if it's 10 degrees out.
The aparment (and building) is not in the best condition. But it doesn't have mold or other problems sometimes associated with old buildings. Everything is just kind of old and well used.
I have only heard my neigherbors two or three times! And I think it was actually the guy above me having a party (all I heard was the music). I don't know how thick the walls are, but it's great because I like my music/movies loud.
I don't have a car, so I can't comment on parking.
Downsides: The hallways have some funky smells. I had some cockroach issues for the first few months. That freaked me out because I'm not used to worrying about them (Oregon doesn't have cockroaches). But after repeated visits from the pest control guy (comes weekly if you need it), I haven't seen any bugs since like November. It's not exactly the safest area in the world. I feel okay walking from the Metro at night (and I have classes at night, so sometimes I don't get home until almot midnight). But I wouldn't feel safe with my fiance walking around at night. After we're married, we'll be living somewhere else.
Overall, I'd probably stay here again if I were by myself. The location is great being right next to the Metro stop and a Safeway (like you could throw a rock and hit it if there wasn't a building in the way). The managment is fine. It's seems reasonably priced. No big complaints from me.
