Nice for students, NOT for professionals

Years at this apartment: 2007 - 2008
I've been in a 2 bedroom unit with a bonus den since August 2007 and so far my experience has been mixed. I was drawn to Mass Court because of it's location (it might just be the closest apartment complex to the Capitol where I work) and because it's appearance was immaculate.
Being one who appreciates a nice and professional living environment, I thought I had met my match - not to mention the price was reasonable for a young Hill staffer. The rooftop pool with a view of the Capitol building, a new (if somewhat small) gym, and very spacious units were all big pluses for me as well.
My honeymoon period with this complex ended after the first few months, however. They must have built this thing in a rush because everything seems to be slapped together. The first indicator was during the summer of 07 (one of the hottest in a while) when the AC throughout the lobby and hallways was not working (we were told the AC was installed wrong). Our apartment unit, while immaculate, is also suffering from some premature aging. The ventilation system has never worked properly so during the winter we'll accumulated mold in and around our window sills. After approaching the incompetent leasing office, we were told to 'spray some windex' on the mold and wait a few days. Keep in mind that my roommates and I are paying $3000 a month in rent. I asked to speak with building management, and professional cleaners were in our apartment within a week.
The plumbing also sucks. We continually have to call maintenance to get our sinks and showers unclogged. During our last call, the maintenance people told us they'd had enough with our building and that the builders "must not have known what the hell they were doing." I had to agree.
Throw in the fact that they're right in the middle of building a high rise RIGHT NEXT DOOR which as all but erased our view of the Capitol building and this complex is nothing near what it used to be just a year or two ago.
I'm not one to complain, and thankfully my roommates and I don't require a lot of attention at our place. This place is perfect for students and for those who are seeking downtown living for cheap. But if you're looking to settle down in a quiet, controlled environment where you know the market value of your place isn't going to plummet along with your piping - you're much better off at a Post or a Camden.
