The Massachusetts House is a wonderful place to live considering how comparably cheap the rent is. The location is great if you work downtown. There's a decent pool on the roof and a gym, which is somewhat rare in the older buildings. It is an older building, so the hallways are a bit outdated, but the apartments themselves are fabulous. I have lived in a one bedroom and a two bedroom in the building. One with hard wood floors and one with carpet. Both are extremely spacious, with utilities included, and virtually sound-proof.

I have occasionally had bugs, but the building hires an exterminator to come every week to fumigate any apartments in which tenants have complained. The staff is always quick to respond to any problems and takes financial responsibility for any problems. I love my apartment, the management, the staff, and the building.

There are garage spaces to rent for $125 a month. The lowest price in the neighborhood.

The downsides: lots of kids running around (especially the pool) without parental supervision, homeless people on the surrounding blocks (but never in front of the building), and the firehouse across the street.

The firehouse across the street means endless sirens, day and night. And,since you can't control when you have a/c and heating that means that the windows are often open to all that noise -- which often includes prostitutes screaming at each other. Soundproof? I could hear conversations in the next door apartment. And fighting the cockroaches was an ongoing, losing battle. I wouldn't move back into the Mass House at half the price!
