Nice Place, bad employees, bad area of DC to live in

I am a Government employee and work only a few short blocks from my apartment. One of the drawbacks of walking to work is going through the homeless people. This is a HUGE disapointment for me. Everyday I am approached and "Hit Up" for money. The main reason is because there is a HOMELESS SHELTER right across the street. I have been accosted several times going into the side door from homeless asking or even demanding money. One evening a very large homeless man asked me for money, when I told him no, he replied "I know you can afford it living in this rich ----- place"! I still did not give him any money, and it made me feel very unsecure. The other part of walking to work is going through the constant smell of urine on H street. They have a park just off the front of the building where the homeless sleep. I am amazed that I didnt realize this when I moved in. Also, the 13 month lease is terrible. If I could move out today, I would. Parking is a joke. You pay out the nose for a 500 square foot apartment, then they want to milk you for another $150.00 to have the priviledge to park in their garage. They WILL tow you if you dont pay it too. My apartment faces another problem. There is a "rent controlled" or senior apartment housing directly outside my windows. I can throw a rock and hit this. The problems are with the police or fire departments constantly coming down the alley at all hours of the night. I have never seen a place that needed so much emergency help in all my life. On several occasions I have called the DC Police Department because of noise that woke me at 2,3, and 4 in the morning. I will not be renewing my lease and if I could get kicked out, I would opt for that!
