I?ve lived here almost 2 years. The location is great and the office staff competent and responsive but there are a couple of negatives that stand out.


First is the noise. People here enjoy their stereos and they enjoy them LOUD. At any given time you can hear hip-hop jams blasting in the halls and heavy bass lines vibrating the walls. I have a 2 bedroom but I can?t use the main bedroom because my neighbor on that side apparently hosts his own 24-hour nightclub. That room is uninhabitable. I have to keep that door shut just to hear my TV. God help me if I want to turn the TV off and read a book. No chance.


Second is the so-called "security". When there?s a problem with neighbors we?re supposed to call security. If they show up (BIG "IF") they don?t always do anything. They rarely document problems and they don?t police anything. People loiter outside the main door then sneak in with tenants who have pass cards and security just watches them go past. I was even verbally assaulted by some psycho in the main lobby for almost 3 minutes while waiting for the super slow elevator and two security officers sat and watched and did nothing. I checked with the office and the incident wasn?t even documented. I?d rather they dump the useless ?security? and cut the rent a bit.


And then there?s the parking ... there ain?t none. It?s downtown and there?s a convention center a block away so that?s to be expected. Also, construction in the neighborhood is perpetual. Traffic tie-ups and constant construction noise are par for the course. None of this is the building?s fault, but it is worth consideration for prospective tenants.


I recommend Mount Vernon Plaza with reservations. Good place to live, convenient to downtown, metro and Dupont Circle but if you want a quiet, peaceful home with convenient parking and reliable security, look elsewhere.
