not bad, for the price

the feature that attracted me to "Paradise" was the price. after approx. 8 mos. of living there, that remains the best feature of the apartment complex. as always, when you're working with a small budget you're gonna have to sacrifice a few (or more than a few)luxuries: 1) the location leaves much to be desired. it might not seems so at first, but the place is kinda far from the heart of d.c. in the morning the traffic is horrible (right off of 295). on the flip, the complex in set off of the main street and is surrounded by trees - kinda cozy. 2)from what i hear, the place used to be one of the worst in washington. it's been cleaned up, but there's still a bit of unsavoriness. maintenance does a pretty good upkeep job on the landscaping and exterior of the buildings. 3) the interior of the buildings is a whole 'nother story. when maintenance issued have occurred (e.g. broken A/C, running toilet) it's takes far too long to get them resolved. also, there's evidence that the builders might have skimped on a few materials during construction. i can hear my upstairs neighbors loud and very clear. 4) there are a lot of kids. this could be good or bad depending on your opinion of children. on the plus side, the community has its own daycare, computer center, community/rec center, and a couple playgrounds and a park nearby (i.e. there's plenty of stuff for the the kids to do so they don't go around terrorizing the neighborhood). i've never felt unsafe, even walking around at night.
