Rats, Roaches and Non-Responsive Management

From: -Anonymous-

Years at this apartment: 1998 - 2005

When I moved into Park East there was a friendly responsive manager on site early in the morning and late into the evenings. The building was clean and well maintained. Management has since changed hands and "upgrades" are done on vacated apartments as old tenants get disgusted and leave.

Management - Located in the building next door. The old on site office is now rented out as an apartment. Calls are never returned and some issues simply ignored until you confront them in person.

Rats, Mice and Roaches - Supposedly the rat infestation is due to trees being removed from areas around the property. Management has insensitively promised to remove dead rodents from my apartment but not done so. It was several years before I saw a single roach in this building now not a single day goes by without seeing one. Traumatic.

Laundry Room - Washers are always dirty but usually in working order. Dryers are always broken and often take your money. Infuriating.

Exercise Room - Adequate equipment but a hot box with no ventilation. Locks have been removed from the door allowing anyone who wonders into the building to enter. Not safe!

Vending Machines - We were all excited to see snack and soda machines added to the basement floor, however, the snack machine has now been empty for months and the soda machine is usually empty too. Disappointing.

Noise - Most neighbors are considerate and the building is usually rather quiet on the weekends. During the week, however, workers play loud music in empty apartments and holler yell and bang starting very early in the morning and lasting all day into the early evenings. On occasion these noisy apartment upgrades are conducted on the weekends as well. Irritating.

Maintenance - This is the most upsetting aspect of living at Park East. I've had several leaks fixed but the walls never repainted. We all received a message letting us know that our air conditioning filters were going to be replaced but when my air conditioner stopped working two months later I was horrified to see that the same disgusting 8 year old filter was still in my unit. Although it was repaired my air conditioner still doesn't cool down my little studio apartment. Because of pressure from our Building Association maintenance now tries to give notice before (sometimes after) entering apartments. I call to schedule extermination every month but am told the wrong date each time. I've had to pay attention to the pattern over a few months in order to put away my jewelry (since I don't trust maintenance) and prepare for extermination. It seems as though once a week the water is turned off for a day. It's always back on by 5pm but I'd hate to home sick on one of those days. In the past few months this has become the dirtiest building that I have ever lived in. The hallways have been painted and the carpet replaced but the constant presence of construction workers keep the walls, building entrance and elevators filthy. Unforgivable.

The view is great and the location fantastic but this building is certainly not worth it. I'd rather move to the suburbs than deal with all of this.
