I have been living at PM for almost a year. My view can only be summed as "eh, it's ok I guess." It isn't a bad building nor is it all that great.

Cons:

The apartments are small. I have a studio and I find that even for one person, it is a bit too small and I am not happy paying $1000 for such a small space.

The building itself is quite ugly and unattractive in my opinion. The way the building operates is like a college dorm hall. From the apartments to security it reminds me of college. The whole thing of guests having to sign in and show ID gets tired. Why not have a phone at the desk and security can call you to let you know you have a visitor'

Utility: Heating and AC comes out of one stupid old appliance. If you live in studio, the minute you turn your AC or heat on, you are cold/hot in few minutes and have to turn it off, then it gets cold/hot again in few minutes and back on again.

Security: Columbia Heights is a transitional neighborhood, which means still some crime. My apt faces 16th street and I hear EVERYTHING. Every car horn, every siren, I hear it all. My advice, avoid anything facing 16th. I don't really feel safe walking the neighborhood late at night. If I am out too late, I just take a taxi.

Pro:

Staff & Management: Every time I have problem, staff is on top of it. I have had problems with fridge and toilet and issues were fixed when I got home from work (same day). Maintenance keeps the building sparkling clean. Norma, Lisa and security guards are absolutely great.

Location: Everything you need is there. Supermarket, metro, walk to Adams Morgan, restaurants. It really is a good neighborhood.

Do I recommend PM' Sure. If you want cheap living, go for it. If you can afford more, I would choose something else. For what I pay, I can't really complain too much.

If I can afford something more at the end of my lease, I plan to move out.

I am scheduled to view a unit at the Park Monroe tomorrow - is there a significant bug (specifically roaches) problem?? Thanks, Farah
