The complex has gang graffiti tagged on apartment doors. The apartments are inside a "locked" entryway, 12 per door. However, the lock on the entryway door at my unit has been broken for months. When I complained to management they insisted it would be fixed in a week (2 months ago). Friday and Saturday nights are party time, and the parking lot and units come alive with rap music and drinking in the parking lot. @ nights ago a couple of gangster looking punks pulled a gun on me as I was walking home from the bus stop after a late dinner with friends. They were no doubt intent on robbing me but I was able to get away by running as fast as I could. I was only a half a block from the apartment and as I ran into the parking lot there was an ambulance in front of my apartment. The flashing lights evidently scared off the assailants. I was not surprised to see flashing lights in front of the apartment, as they are there most nights, either as a firetruck, police, or ambulance.

My neigbor was robbed and her friend carjacked in front of the apartments one night. She complained and they now have lights on the sides of buildings. Parking is adequate, although the lines are too close so my new vehicle now has scratches and dings all over the sidepanels and doors since the residents do not care about their own stuff, let alone someone else's.

Last week some punks hanging out in front of the entrance to the apartment fired off a pistol round. I love how all the criminals can carry guns here in DC yet respectable people are not allowed to carry guns (under review by the US Supreme Court). In fairness, if you never leave your apartment you are probably ok, but nights are dangerous. And the rent is cheaper than anything else I could find without doing a share or someone's basement. But with the economic benefit you are trading off your personal security.
