I've been here about two years. Positives are the location: Northern Connecticut Avenue and about a 10 to 15 minute walk to the Friendship Heights, grocery and nice stores near by (Starbucks, liquor stores, cleaners etc.). The general area seems very safe. The rent is also relatively cheap for the area.
Neutrals: you can buy parking but I think it's pricey. There is plenty of parking about a block or two away which does not bother me. There is one maintenance guy on staff for emergencies but otherwise no customer service person so you have to call the main office but they usually return calls.
Negatives are that this is probably the oldest building in the area, amenities are non-existent, like your lucky to have a mailbox, they recently put new ones in which can take more than a magazine. I have a new refrigerator but the bathroom and kitchen have otherwise not been remodeled since at least the 1970s. The doors are thin but the walls are brick and it's generally quiet. They nickel and dime you by charging an extra $60/month if you use the air conditioner in the summer which you basically have to or else melt to death. The elevator is ancient and you may risk your life in it; the communal clothes washers cost lots of quarters (why can't they get an electronic card system); there is no staff to get packages etc for you; and my garbage disposal never works. Plus, there have been annual rent increases of about 7% each year which is a hell of a lot more than the raises I got. Still, this may be a good starter location for a student or someone on a tight budget but after two or three years here, you'll be ready to bail.
