Years at this apartment: 2009 - 2009
The location of the building was unbeatable, my apartment (a studio) was plenty big, with a large walk in closet, a small but managible bathroom, and a tiny kitchen.
The front door staff were very friendly and the manager was extremely helpful to my and my family (I was renting under somewhat unique circumstances and she made it very easy and straightforward).
My largest complaint: While I was not allowed to bring my tiny, nearly silent, immaculately behaved dog anywhere near the building my next door neighbor could smoke like a chimney. All my stuff now reeks of smoke and I still am coughing. This is a major issue for me and I don't understand the logic of allowing smoking, that impedes on other resident's comfort and leaves a permanent odor in the apartment but not allowing pets who, even if they pee or poop in the apartment, that comes out, and a little barking doesn't cause lung damage. (AKA if you're going to have a pet free building it better be smoke free too or else you're just being dicks).
Another issue was recently when it started raining a lot my apartment was always damp feeling, even with the air conditioner running. I believe this had to do with being on the first floor however since when I was in an apartment higher up it was perfectly dry.
Moral of the story: don't expect luxury finishes or above average apartments. you're paying for the location (seriously guys... they're over priced but so is everything else in West End). and don't rent on the first floor unless you enjoy humidity and not being able to open your ground level window unless you're there making sure no one tries to come in through it.
