If you're thinking about renting a place in the Carriage House, I'd say go for it. This is just the best place to live in DC. One of my favorite things is the big pool on the roof. It's in the full sun, has lots of beach chairs, but also umbrellas to provide shade. The views are fun too. The roof is a great place to go when you want to take a break.

And for anyone living in DC, the Carriage House is in the perfect location. The building isn't at all secluded, so it doesn't feel uncomfortable when you come home late at night. You're close to everything here. You can easily walk anywhere you want to go--Georgetown, Penn Quarter, Chinatown, Dupont, Adams Morgan and so on. And, even better, three Metro lines are just a few blocks away. A cab stand is right on the corner as well. The building is connected to the Ritz on both sides and Carriage House tenants can use the services the Ritz offers its residents -- if you're interested (well, and if you pay); but it's so convenient to have reliable parking and the LA Sports Club right next door. The Sports Club is amazing.

There are also lots of shops and services in the neighborhood that make it easy to get things done. Within a block or two there are two grocery stores, several shoe repair places and dry cleaners, a hardware store, a library, day spas and hair salons, and lots of little places to eat or get coffee (and not all of them are Starbucks!). Also a real plus are the two farmers markets that happen in the summer, one on Sunday's at 20th and Q; and the other on Wednesday afternoons at 24th and I.

The Carriage House is a great place to live for students at GW too. GW is a great school, but the dorms can be such a nightmare. They seem fun in the beginning, but can really start to get on your nerves. My GW friends love to visit me at the Carriage House. And the manager is always great to us. In fact, the staff at the Carriage House really seem to work hard. The building is older and does need some attention (or at least updating), but they keep it very clean. And they seem very attentive to the people who live here. I've even seen the manager go out and buy food for people who are too sick to leave the building. There is an interesting mix of people in the building, from students and young professionals to retirees. It feels and acts much more like a commumnity than a lot of the other places I've visited in the city.

My years here have been good. And while any building with 10 floors of people is bound to have some problems, when they happen here, in my experience you can count on them being resolved. It's just a great place to live!!
