I've lived here for three years. I've read all other reviews (17 at the time of this writing) first before typing this. There are many truths and some exaggerations to all the reviews. I'll offer my opinions and observations, in no particular order, over the last three years.

Location: Yes, it's fantastic - one of the main reasons I've stayed here. I sold my car when I moved in as I no longer needed it. Grocery store, CVS, gym, bars, restaurants, etc. Overall, it's a very desirable neighborhood.

Elevators: I live on the 1st floor so can't give much of an opinion on the elevators. They are new since earlier this year but are still slow from what I've experienced my few times on them.

Staff & guards: I've never had any problems. The staff as well as most of the guards are friendly. The morning cleaning crew is often loud very early in the a.m.

Rats: Definitely an issue. I had one in my apt. I didn't see it but saw where it had been. The whole in the wall where the kitchen sink pipes enter the apt. was the point of entry. It was reinforced and patched within a day. My next door neighbor had rats as well. You can hear multiple rats in the dumpster at the bottom of the trash chute. Then again, I've seen rats outside of nearby luxury apts bldgs as well.

Insects: I had a period of a couple weeks with large flys in the apt. They are slow and easy to whack. I won the battle and have not had other insect problems.

Vandalism: Hell yes to this one. I often see cars that were recently broken into parked along R St. because with the glass still next to the car. I imagine this is anywhere in DC and is certainly not the Chastleton's fault. We all know it's the thugs down on R St. towards 14th and beyond.

Cleanliness. Is adequate, but c'mon, the residents have to take some responsibility here. How difficult is it to throw away lint and laundry sheets in the large trash can in the laundry room' Slobs! Same for the trash rooms. There are signs posted asking for residents to take large boxes outside to the dumpster. Still the chute is often clogged by inconsiderate residents and therefore other garbage bags are left in the trash room instead of making it down the chute. Again, not the Chastleton's fault. The carpet in the hallways are in need of replacing.

Quality: the appliances are dated and the closet doors continuously fall off the track. My apt. is quiet although I'm on the end unit. Otherwise, I'm satisfied with what I'm getting for my money.

Hope this helps!
