Years at this apartment: 1996 - 2004
I lived in the Chastleton from 1996-2004. When I first moved in I was very impressed with the friendly management, excellent location, and affordable rent. Over the past several years several key members of the management staff have left and have been replaced by people who are not as skilled at resident relations.
In September 2003 a rodent chewed through the ceiling at around 1:30 in the morning. I lived in a studio apartment, so there was nowhere for me to hide from the animal that was eating its way through my kitchen ceiling.
I went downstairs to inform the guard who replied, "Oh yeah. I've seen lots of rats around here. They are nasty. They don't just have disease, they have diseases!" I asked if he was going to help me at all to which he replied, "No, but I will write it in the nightly report." I had to go back up and nail some cardboard over the place where the animal had chewed a hole and hope that it didn't come back.
The next day I asked the management to fix the hole ASAP. They acted like having vermin chew through ceilings was a normal event that didn't require any special attention. After several phone calls and messages that went unanswered I returned to find that nothing had been done about the hole. The senior manager finally took care of it, but the whole experience made me ready to move out as soon as possible.
The building is very pretty, located in a great neighborhood, but the rents have skyrocketed and the management has not kept pace with the rising rent. I would not recommend living at the Chastleton.
