move-in was hard enough with the manager having "forgot" to leave notice that we were allowed to get in.

the blinds break about twice a week, the fittings in the bathroom were old and the kitchen gas rings are crooked.

on the good side, the people who work here (under the manager, Paula Covington), are very friendly and helpful but I've seen (and heard!) them being treated terribly by Ms. Covington, as a result of which they are leery to help out residents in the simplest things for fear of getting in trouble.

about the manager and management: when we moved in, we were told we could erect a partition which we bought and hired a contractor for, and which on the day when it was being put together, Ms. Covington prevented us from erecting. When I went to speak to her, she started by yelling at me in front of the leasing office, stopping just short of abuse (barely). Comments were made about not moving to The Chastleton unless one could "afford it" (nice thing to say to a building inhabited mostly by students!) and about my mental abilities....or lack thereof. When reminded of the promise made earlier, she laughed in my face and suggested that I go to law school to understand the lack of value of verbal commitments. in this claim and attitude she was supported entirely by her supervisor at armc.

I'm moving. Even though my lawyer thinks we'd have a pretty good chance of winning in court (details of the lease support us) I don't want to live in a building where the management is so rude.

It's a shame because the building is lovely, the apartments are large and the staff friendly. The residents seem very nice too.

DON'T move here because chances are you'll need to interact with management at some point or another, especially with the penchant the fittings of your apartment will demonstrate for falling apart.
it might be $50-100 cheaper a month than other buildings nearby but you'll spend more than that in frustration and replacements.
