The Normandie, while *near* safe neighborhoods, is not *in* a safe neighborhood. That the building does not have any security systems (other than a partially functional front door lock) is inexcusable, given the cost and the frequency of violent crimes (three on property in the last 8 months, at least). The building has its own distinctive scent, the single elevator is lazy, the trash is collected too infrequently, and the washing machines are expensive and function poorly.
That said, I got a one and a half bedroom for nine hundred bucks, on a bus line and a few blocks from the metro.
