Sigh...I'll give it to you straight

You have to ask yourself what you can afford and what you can accept when considering living here. Personally, I don't think it's that bad, but I'll tell you what's wrong with the place: 1) The management is either not very interested in doing a good job or they're just overwhelmed with so many units to take care of. 2) It's a low income community, which does not mean that the people are inherently bad, quite the opposite. What it does mean that their lives are not great. They're 90 percent hard working people, that don't get much satisfaction in their working lives, so when they come home, they're not in best moods and they don't have the money to go out on the town or go buy something to make themselves feel better and so they act out and many times, their neighbors have to bear witness to this or in some cases suffer as a result of this social dynamic. 3) There is a mice problem in the build. Everybody has them. I try to keep my place clean, but there's really no stopping them. Maybe one day I'll put down some traps, but I don't like the idea of having to clean the traps later. Eww. 4) The neighborhood is a little dangerous. Someone shot a bullet through my bedroom window one night when I wasn't home. That scared me pretty bad, and I thought about moving. But I didn't. Seemed like too much trouble for something so random. 5) Your car will get dinged in the parking lot. Again this ain't the Kennedy Warren. People here have crappy cars, and one or two unintended dings to your car will just have to be forgiven. BTW, the parking is free! 6) The Safeway, is not very good, but there's a Giant right up Rhode Island Avenue and the quality is much better. Also, I don't suggest walking to the Safeway, not the safest way to get your groceries (pun fully intended.) 7) The stairwells smell like pee and crack and weed and the elevators are always busy or broken. What do you want' You live in a building with hundreds of men, women and children some of whom are very old and some who have substance abuse problems. This is the real world! 9) Laundry is in the basement. You have to use the elevators to get to the laundry room and yes you will have to eventually interact with your neighbors. Just suck it up and be f---ing neighborly! 8) Drugs. They are everywhere. Best you can do is either just accept it or find a dealer of your choice and the drug of your choice and join in the fun.
And that's it. The rent is probably the best in the city. The move in is easy. The view from the upper apartments is fantastic and the units atleast appear to be clean and functional when you move in. Everything else is a crap-shoot.
